Endpoint:
water solubility
Type of information:
calculation (if not (Q)SAR)
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
November 2017
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
accepted calculation method
Justification for type of information:
Testing of the active component is impossible since the substance is manufactured in water/propylene glycol. It cannot be isolated without decomposition and does not exist in a pure form. The concentration of the active component (42 % in water/propylene glycol) represents the highest concentration at which the substance is stable and completely dissolved. This forms the basis for a calculated value for the water solubility.
Principles of method if other than guideline:
Calculated value based on the maximum concentration of the active component in the manufactured substance.
GLP compliance:
no
Type of method:
other: Calculation
Key result
Water solubility:
450 g/L
Conc. based on:
act. ingr. (dissolved fraction)
Temp.:
20 °C
pH:

Details on results:
See below.

The following table summarises the calculated water solubility of the active component.

Concentration active component in manufactured substance [g/100 g]

Water content in manufactured substance [g/100 g]

 43.1

Density of manufactured substance [g/L]

 1 071

Water solubility of active component [g/L]

450

These data show that the water solubility of the active component is at least 450 g/L.

Conclusions:
The water solubility of the active component is at least 450 g/L at 20 °C.
Executive summary:

Since the active component cannot be isolated without decomposition and does not exist in a pure form, the concentration of the active component in the manufactured substance representing the highest concentration at which the active component is stable and completely dissolved served as the basis for calculating a value for the water solubility. The water solubility is at least 450 g/L at 20 °C.

Conclusions:
The commercial product (15.5 % C-Quart) is miscible with water at every ratio.
Executive summary:

In a preliminary test according to OECD testing guideline 105, the commercial product (15.5 % C-Quart) proved to be miscible with water at every ratio.

Description of key information

Since the active component cannot be isolated without decomposition and does not exist in a pure form, the concentration of the active component in the manufactured substance representing the highest concentration at which this is stable and completely dissolved served as the basis for calculating a value for the water solubility. The water solubility is at least 450 g/L at 20 °C.

A preliminary test according to OECD testing guideline 105 supports this finding, showing that the commercial product is is miscible with water at every ratio.

Key value for chemical safety assessment
