PBT assessment: overall result

PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB
Justification:

Persistant- Cetyl betaine is readily biodegradable according to an OECD 301B study (73 -84% (CO2 evolution) after 28 d) and as such does not persist in the environment. Thus cetyl betaine does not meet the screening criterion for persistence and it is not considered to be P or vP.

Bioaccumulative- The measured Log Pow is -0.07. The available information indicates that cetyl betaine has a very low potential for bioconcentration and they will not accumulate to significant levels in aquatic organisms. Therefore cetyl betaine is not considered to be bioaccumulative - not B or vB.

Toxic-the toxicity criterion is not met for cetyl betaines as the acute aquatic toxicity L(E)C50 is >1 mg/L. Not T or vT
