Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

There are no studies available on the toxicity ofsorbitan monooleate, ethoxylated (1-6.5 moles ethoxylated)(CAS 9005-65-6) on terrestrial macroorganisms. In accordance to Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 Annex XI, 1.5, the assessment was therefore based on studies conducted with the analogue substances sorbitan, octanoate (2:3) (CAS 91844-53-0) and anhydro-D-glucitol trioleate (CAS 26266-58-0). This read-across is justified in detail in the overall summary (IUCLID chapter 6.3) and within the analogue justification in IUCLID Section 13. In this case of read-across, the best suited (highest degree of structural similarity, nearest physico-chemical properties) read-across substances were used for the assessment. Both read-across substances allow for interpolation to the target substance.

The key study conducted with the read-across substance sorbitan, octanoate (2:3) (CAS 91844-53-0) was performed as a limit test according to OECD guideline 207 and GLP (Simon, 2012). The test organism Eisenia fetida was exposed to the test substance in artificial soil for 14 d, at the nominal test concentration 1000 mg/kg soil dw. No mortality occurred during the test period resulting in a LC50 (14 d) > 1000 mg/kg soil soil dw.

The second study with the read-across substance anhydro-D-glucitol trioleate (CAS 26266-58-0) was performed as a limit test according to OECD 207 and GLP (Harris, 2012). The test organism Eisenia fetida was exposed to the test substance in artificial soil for 14 d, at the nominal test concentration 1000 mg/kg soil dw. No mortality occurred during the test period resulting in a LC50 (14 d) > 1000 mg/kg soil soil dw.

Based on the results from structurally related read-across substances (in accordance to Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 Annex XI, 1.5) which are characterized by an equal ecotoxicological profile and a similar structure, it can be concluded thatsorbitan monooleate, ethoxylated (1-6.5 moles ethoxylated)is of low toxicity to soil macroorganisms.
