Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

An acute toxicity test to Daphia test was performed according to OECD 202, as a limit test at test concentration 100 mg/L. L-Histidine was found not to be toxic to Daphnia magna. The EC50 value is > 100 mg/L and NOEC ≥100 mg/L.

The toxicity to algae was investigated in a study according to OECD 201. Algae were exposed for 72h to 5 test concentrations 4.6, 10, 22, 46 and 100 mg/L. The EC50 values were > 100 mg/L and 74 mg/L for growth rate and yield respectively. The EC10 values found were 58 mg/L for growth rate and 31 mg/L for yield.

According to Guidance document Chapter R.7b, section R.7.8 short-term toxicity tests to fish do not need to be conducted if there are mitigating factors indicating that aquatic toxicity is unlikely to occur. Nevertheless, the short-term toxicity to fish was calculated by EpiSuite's EcoSAR model. ECOSAR estimates the 96h LC50 for fish to be 375000 mg/L. This is far above water solubility so mortalities greater than 50% would not occur in a saturated solution during an exposure period of 96 hours.
