Description of key information

No acute toxicity effects to aquatic invertebrates are expected up to the limit of water solubility (<0.37 mg/L).

One static saltwater study investigating the short-term toxicity to marine crustacean of Fatty acids, C18-unsatd., trimers is available. This study with the marine crustacean Acartia tonsa was conducted according to ISO 14669. Due to the low water solubility of the test substance, the test solutions were prepared as Water Accommodated Fractions (WAF). The LL50 (48 h) is reported with > 1000 mg/L. No significant mortality up to the limit of the water solubility of the test substance was observed (Källqvist, 2004).

A definitive limit study investigating the short term toxicity test of Fatty acids, C18-unsatd., dimers CAS No. 61788-89-4 to Daphnia magna was used as read across to support the findings of the marine study for Fatty acids, C18-unsatd., trimers. This GLP, freshwater static study was conducted according to OECD 202 (1984) as part of the US HPV program (Kelly, 2002). No effect on immobilisation was observed at the tested WAF loading rates (NOELR > 1000 mg/L, nominal). Thus, the result, in addition to the study on the test substance itself concludes that Fatty acids, C18-unsatd., trimers does not show any acute toxicity to aquatic invertebrates up to the limit of water solubility (< 0.37 mg/L).
