Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The effect of the test material on the growth of Scenedesmus subspicatus (Now Desmodesmus subspicatus) has been investigated over a 72-Hour period and gave an EC50 (72 h; biomass) value of 0.7 mg/l and an EC50 (72 h; growth rate) value of 1.6 mg/l. The No Observed Effect Concentration at 72 hours was 0.5 mg/l.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
1.6 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
0.5 mg/L

Additional information

In a 72-hour static test conducted according to OECD Guideline 201 the acute toxicity of the substance to the green algae Desmodesmus subspicatus was examined (Safepharm 2001). The test was performed in a closed system in the nominal concentration range between 0.5 and 8 mg/L. The growth of algae was calculated from the cell density assessed with a cell counter. The test substance being highly instable due to its high hydrolysis potential, the effect data were related to the nominal concentrations. The test was performed with an aqueous solution of the test substance. EC50 (growth rate) = 1.6 mg/L; NOEC (growth rate) = 0.5 mg/L.
