Description of key information

No photodegradation is expected. Hydrolysis to a minor, not yet quantifiable degree, is limited to a gel-layer surrounding the synthetic amorphous silica particle in aqueous medium. Some transformation in silicic acid, the bioavailable form of synthetic amorphous silica (SAS), from dissolution occurs under environmental conditions.

Additional information

SAS is expected to either dissolved entirely or aggregate to structures comparable to natural amorphous silica which is a common constitutne of the earth's crust while not posing any risk under realistic environmental scenarios.
