Executive summary:

A seven day transformation/dissolution test according to the OECD guideline 29 and the GHS (Annex 10) protocol was run on Co3O4 at a mass loading of 10 and 100 mg/L, at a pH of 6.0 Also a 28 day transformation/dissolution was run on Co3O4 at a mass loading of 1 mg/L and at a pH of 6.0. Under the conditions of this test, the dissolution of Co3O4 is 1.03 on a log10 -scale for the 28 -day endpoint (1 mg/L loading), 1.41 on a log10 -scale for the 7 -day endpoint (10 mg/L loading) and 2.12 on a log10 -scale for the 7 -day endpoint (100 mg/L loading).

Details on results:
Total elution times were about 93 hours at 20°C and 115.5 hours at 37°C. The measured results differ by less than 30%. Therefore, the study is considered to be valid.
The water solubility was not corrected for the purity of the test item.

The concentration of cobalt in the test item solution was analysed using atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS). The test samples were quantified with reference to the calibration curves. Reference solution: 1000 µL of a cobalt standard solution with a concentration of 1000 µg/mL Co were diluted in 100 mL of nitric acid 2 % (v/v) to prepare a stock solution of 10 µg/mL of Co. 1000 µL of this stock solution were diluted to 100mL with the same solvent to obtain a diluted stock solution of 0.1µg/ml Co ( 100µg/L Co).
