Additional information

The Beimborn, 2000, study is presented as the key study for this endpoint. The study was performed according to Annex of EEC-Directive 92/69; corresponds to OECD Guideline 301 F and ISO Standard 9408. The inoculum used for the test was taken from the municipal wastewater treatment plant of Mannheim, 24 hours before the start of the test the sludge was washed and aerated then added at the initiation of the test at 30mg dry solids/l. The test solution used for the study was stated as 50 mg/l. Biodegradation of the test substance was shown to be a comparatively slow process. Therefore the test duration was prolonged. After a test period of 74 days biodegradation processes were still ongoing.

The following results were reported:

Biodegradation degree (BOD of THOD) after 28 days: 30 -40%

Biodegradation degree (BOD of THOD) after 74 days: 40 -50%

The test was fully validated according to the criteria stated in the report.

The Baumann, 1992a, and Baumann, 1992b, studies are presented here as supporting information only. Both studies were conducted according to EC Method C.5 (84/449/EEC) and under good laboratory practice conditions. The results of the Baumann, 1992a, and Baumann, 1992b, studies were 11 -19% degradation after 28 days and 23% degradation after 28 days respectively and support that DOTE is not readily biodegradable.
