Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Two studies have been carried out according to OECD 308 in order to assess transformation of DMDS in aquatic sediment systems, one under aerobic conditions and the other under anaerobic conditions. Two different samples of sediment+water were used as required in the test guideline.

No biotransformation was recorded in any case, the main phenomenon taking place being dissipation of DMDS to atmosphere under the air (aerobic conditions) or nitrogen (anaerobic conditions) which flows through the test system.

This result was anticipated since the test substance is a fumigant, and the TG 308 specifies in paragraph 5 (applicability of the test): " The test should not be applied to chemicals which are highly volatile from water (e.g. fumigants, organic solvents) and thus cannot be kept in water and/or sediment under the experimental conditions of this test."
