Diuron is not readily biodegradable following the criteria given by the OECD Guidelines for the Testing of Chemicals. In water/sediment systems, Diuron is quickly eliminated from the water body, either by translocation into the sediment or via degradation (DT50values for the water phase of 4 to 9 days). However, degradation from the entire system is slower, with DT50values of 48 to 232 days (102 and 493 days recalculated to 12 °C). In Soil, Diuron degrades slowly with DT50values ranging from 118 days (humic sand) to 372 days (silt loam soil) (251 to 1239 days recalculated to 12 °C). The DT50value of the silt loam soil increased to 1920 days (6393 days recalculated to 12 °C) under sterile conditions indicating that degradation in soil is mainly microbial.
