Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Chloroethylene is a volatile gaseous substance for which inhalation is the most likely route of

exposure. It is extensively studied for its repeated-dose toxicity and the available for this substance experimental data is adequate, relevant and reliable to perform the safety assessment of chloroethylene.

The following toxicity values were observed in studies in rodents:

·                   The NOEC (inhalation, subchronic, rat)= 130 mg/m3;

·                   The LOEC (inhalation, subchronic, rat)= 260 mg/m3 (increased relative liver weight);

In conclusion, the currently available repeated-dose toxicity studies ofchloroethylenevia inhalation report carcinogenicity as the most significant toxic effect of long-term exposure tochloroethylene.
