Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for microorganisms:
1 000 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for microorganisms:
1 000 mg/L

Additional information

In a GLP compliant study performed according to the standardised guideline OECD 209, the toxicity of the test material to aquatic microorganisms was determined in an activated sludge respiration inhibition test. Activated sludge was exposed to the test material for 3 hours at the following concentrations; 10, 100 and 1000 mg/L, after which the rate of respiration was calculated from the oxygen consumption. Under the conditions of the study the EC50was determined to be in excess of 1000 mg/L. The NOEC was determined to be 1000 mg/L. It was deemed unnecessary to test at concentrations greater than 1000 mg/L.

Since the study was conducted with the read across substance, hydrocarbon waxes (petroleum), oxidised, it has been assigned a reliability score of 2 in line with the criteria of Klimisch (1997). Read across from this substance is justified on the basis of its similar physical and chemical properties to those of the registered substance. Furthermore, it has a very similar chemical structure; the registered substance is an esterified form of the read across substance.
