Description of key information

Accumulation of NTA acid in organisms is not to be expected.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

In accordance with column 2 of REACH Annex IX, the bioaccumulation in aquatic species study does not need to be conducted as the substance has a low potential for bioaccumulation (the substance has a log octanol water partition coefficient less than 3).

However, the EU RAR 2005 cites results of a study conducted by Lentz and Lidzba (1988) for the analog salt Na3NTA, determining the bioaccumulation by a series of species (fish, snail, backswimmer, worm, frog, and crayfish). The study demonstrates that only a low accumulation of NTA occurs in the hydrosphere (BCF values around 3-20 L/kg.
