Details on study design: HPLC method:
HPLC is performed on an analytical column packed with a commercially available cyanopropyl solid phase chemically bonded on silica. Chemicals injected on such a column move along it by partitioning between the mobile solvent phase and the cyanopropyl stationary phase. As a result of partitioning between mobile and stationary phase the test substances are retarded. The dual composition of the stationary phase having polar and non-polar sites allows for interaction of polar and non-polar groups of a molecule in a similar way as is the case for organic matter in soil matrices. This enables the relationship between the retention time on the column and the adsorption coefficient on organic matter to be established.

The adsorption coefficient (Koc) of the test substance is given as its log Koc value.
