Results and discussion

Adsorption to test vessels was observed for p-t-butylphenyl diphenyl phosphate. The percentage of the nominal fortification adsorbed to the sample vessels ranged from 7.42% to 15.9% for samples fortified at a nominal concentration of 7.22 μg/L p-t-butylphenyl diphenyl phosphate. For samples fortified at a nominal concentration of 72.2 μg/L p-t-butylphenyl diphenyl phosphate, the percentage of the nominal fortification adsorbed to the sample vessels ranged from 9.25% to 21.4%. The associated recoveries of the analysis of decanted samples, representative of the dissolved concentration ranged from 63.9% to 87.9% of the nominal fortification. The total recovery associated with these samples ranged from 84.2% to 96.4% of the nominal fortification with respect to p-t-butylphenyl diphenyl phosphate, illustrating acceptable mass-balance for the sample analyses of p-t-butylphenyl diphenyl phosphate.

Adsorption to test vessels was observed for bis(t-butylphenyl)phenyl phosphate. The percentage of the nominal fortification adsorbed to the sample vessels ranged from 9.15% to 23.6% for samples fortified at a nominal concentration of 2.54 μg/L bis(t-butylphenyl)phenyl phosphate. For samples fortified at a nominal concentration of 25.4 μg/L bis(t-butylphenyl)phenyl phosphate, the percentage of the nominal fortification adsorbed to the sample vessels ranged from 6.71% to 30.3%. The associated recoveries of the analysis of decanted samples, representative of the dissolved concentration ranged from 52.6% to 83.5% of the nominal fortification. The total recovery associated with these samples ranged from 77.6% to 100% of the nominal fortification with respect to bis(t-butylphenyl)phenyl phosphate, illustrating acceptable mass-balance for the sample analyses of bis(t-butylphenyl)phenyl phosphate.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Conclusions:
The test substance was fortified in freshwater at two concentrations in replicates. Fortified samples were processed to determine dissolved and adsorbed concentration of the test substance by analyzing p-t-butylphenyldiphenyl phosphate and bis(t-butylphenyl)phenyl phosphate in test solutions. The sample solutions were decanted and the fortification vessels were rinsed with solvent. The rinsates of sample vessels and decanted portions were analyzed for p-t-butylphenyldiphenyl phosphate and bis(t-butylphenyl)phenyl phosphate to determine the amount of test substance adsorbed to sample vessels. Analyses were conducted at hour 0, 6, 24 and 48 after fortification. Adsorption of test substance residues to the sample vessel was observed.
