Description of key information

At a concentration of 0.01 and 0.1% quinidine inhibits germination and growth. Thus, quinidine has phytotoxic effects.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

In the publications of Wink, 1992 and 1998 the inhibition of germination as well as root and hypocotyl growth for Lepidium sativum and Lactuca sativa was determined. At a concentration of 0.01% (0.1 g/kg soil) quinidine showed inhibition of germination. Furthermore, the growth of roots and hypocotyls was affected at concentrations of 0.01% (0.1 g/kg soil) and 0.1% (1 g/kg soil), respectively. In conclusion, quinidine has phytotoxic effects.
