Description of key information

A well conducted study with the structurally similar amides, C8-18 and C18-unsatd., N, N-bis(hydroxyethyl) conducted in Pseudomonas putida (bacteria) resulted in EC10 and EC50 values of 0.83 and 6 g/L respectively. Inhibition of cell growth was observed at 1.0 mg/L. Based on read-across these values will be used for the assessment of HE Rape Oil, reaction product with diethanolamine.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for microorganisms:
6 g/L
EC10 or NOEC for microorganisms:
0.83 g/L

Additional information

A study was conducted to assess the toxicity of the structurally similar amides, C8 -18 and C18 -unsatd., N, N-bis(hydroxyethyl) to the bacteria Pseudomona putida according to DIN guideline 38412 L8. Pseudomonas putida colonies, in triplicate, were exposed to the test substance at nominal concentrations of 0.01, 0.05, 0.10, 0.50, 1.00, 2.50, 5.00 and 10.00 g/L. Inhibition of cell growth compared to controls was recorded after 72 hours. The EC10was 0.83 g/L and the EC506.0 g/L. Inhibition of cell growth was observed as of 1.0 g/L.
