Description of key information

Short-term toxicity to fish: An acute 96-h toxicity test was conducted to estimate the toxicity of Desmedipham to Rainbow Trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss). Based on geometric mean measured concentrations of Desmedipham, the LC50 (96 h) was determined to be 1.41 mg/L.

Long-term toxicity to fish: A fish early life stage toxicity study was conducted to estimate the long-term toxicity of Desmedipham to Rainbow Trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss). The NOEC was determined to be 0.076 mg/L.

Short-term toxicity to Daphnia: An acute 48-h toxicity test was conducted to determine the influence of Desmedipham on the mobility of Daphnia magna. Based on arithmetic mean-measured concentrations of Desmedipham, the 48-h EC50 was determined to be 0.35 mg/L.

Long-term toxicity to Daphnia: A study was conducted to investigate the chronic toxicity of Desmedipham to Daphnia magna over 21days. The 21-d NOEC was determined to be 0.020 mg/L (based on mean measured concentrations).

Toxicity to algae: A study was conducted to determine the influence of Desmedipham on exponentially growing Selenastrum capricornutum over 96 hours under static exposure. Based on mean measured concentrations, the 72-h ErC50 (base on growth rate) was determined to be 0.064 mg/L.

Toxicity to aquatic plants: A study was conducted to determine the influence of Desmedipham on Lemna gibba over 7 days. Based on geometric mean measured concentrations, the 7-d ErC50 and NOEC were determined to be 0.113 mg/L and 0.0107 mg/L, respectively.

Toxicity to microorganisms: A respiration inhibition study was performed to investigate the toxicity of Desmedipham on activated sludge exposed to it for 3 hours. The EC50 was determined to be >1000 mg a.s./L and ≥1000 mg/L, respectively.
