Description of key information

The pigment (Reaction mass of cobalt olivine and crystalline silicon dioxide) is an inorganic, dark blue, odourless, solid powder.

- Melting point > 1000 °C

- relative density: 3.74.

- Particle size distribution: d10 = 1.1 µm, d50 = 3 µm, d90 = 7.6 µm

- Dustiness:

total: 170.44 mg/g

MMAD= 10.92 µm, GSD= 3.46

Fractional deposition in human respiratory tract: Head (ET): 63.1 %, Tracheobronchial (TB): 1.3 %, Pulmonary (PU): 3.7 %

- The transformation/dissolution

Transformation/dissolution at a loading of 1 mg/L at pH 6, the pH that maximises dissolution, after 7 and 28 days resulted in dissolved cobalt concentrations of 101 µg Co/L and 138 µg Co/L, respectively. (Knopf, 2014).

The specific surface area(B.E.T. method) for the test sample used for HH and ENV testing was determined to be16 ± 1 m²/g.

Additional information

Studies conducted in accordance with EU guidelines are available for: appearance, melting point, relative density,particle size distribution, dustiness and transformation / dissolution.

Waivers are proposed for boiling point, vapour pressure, partition coefficient, surface tension, flash point, auto flammability, flammability for solids, pyrophoric properties, flammability in contact with water, explosiveness, oxidising properties, stability in organic solvents, dissociation constant and viscosity.
