Additional information

The solubility of the test material was determined using a EEC method A6 and OECD 105 and in compliance with GLP.

The study was awarded a reliability score of 1 in accordance with the criteria set forth by Klimisch et al. (1997).

The test material (approximately 100 mg) is mixed at room temperature with increasing volumes of water or buffer solution (0.1 mL to 100 mL); mixtures are equilibrated at the test temperature; the solubility is estimated for each volume by visually checking for undissolved test material. In addition, 5 mg of the test material are mixed with 500 mL of water and buffer solutions in order see the solubility limit of 10 mg/L and conclude on the confirmation method to be used.

The confirmation method is based on the elution of a test material with water from a micro-column which is charged with an inert support material, previously coated with an excess of the test material. The water solubility is given by the mass concentration of the eluate when this has reached a plateau as a function of time.

Concentrations in test solutions were determined using a suitable analytical method (MA 1675-01).

Under the conditions of the study the mean solubility in water is 1.7 mg Ytterbium Disilicate / L in water at pH 6 and 20 °C (extrapolated value).
