Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

First-aid measures

In case of doubt or in the presence of symptoms contact a physician, and show him/her the material safety data sheet. In case of severe symptoms, call your local health care emergency number. Call a poison control center in order to receive toxicological advice for the clinical management of poisoning. Do not administer anything by mouth to an unconscious person.
Emergency measure - Inhalation: Remove from exposure immediately. Use a bag valve mask or similar device to perform artificial respiration if needed. Get medical attention if needed.
Emergency measure - Eyes: Wash eyes immediately with large amounts of water or normal saline, occasionally lifting upper and lower lids, until no
evidence of chemical remains. Get medical attention if needed.
Emergency measure - Skin: Remove contaminated clothing, jewelry and shoes.
Wash with soap or mild detergent and large amounts of water until no evidence of chemical remains (at least 15-20 minutes). Get medical attention, if needed.
Emergency measure - Ingestion: Get medical attention if needed.

Fire-fighting measures

Recommended extinguishing agent: Standard chemical powder, carbon dioxide, water, standard foam.

Product arising from burning: C02, HF, H2O

Product determined by test: N

Protective equipment: Full firefighting gear. Any air-supply respirator with full facepiece operated in a pressure-demand or other positive-pressure mode in combination with a separate exhaust.

Accidental release measures

In cases of accident/spillage there is an Emergency Plan for minimizing the substance emissions and the consequent potential exposure.

Emergency measures in case of spillage: collect spilled material in appropriate container for disposal. Keep out of water supplies and sewers. Keep
unnecessary people away from the isolated hazard area and deny entry.

Handling and storage

Handling: handling precautions are taken by using technical means for rigorous substance containment, and, when it is required, suitable personal protective equipments and other safety apparatus.

Storage: The substance is stored in suitable fiber drums or polyethylene HD which are stored in a warehouse under monitored temperature and humidity. There is no evidence for decomposition risks due to material incompatibility or effects of temperature.

Packaging of the substance and/or preparation: Packaging is performed in suitable fiber drums or polyethylene HD.

Further details are given in the "RMM_details" attached in section 13 of the Registration Dossier.

Exposure controls / personal protection

According to the Company internal procedures, the substance is rigorously controlled during its whole lifecycle including manufacture, purification, cleaning and maintenance of equipments, sampling analysis, loading and unloading of equipments or vessels, waste disposal and storage:

(a) the substance is manufactured and used (transformed in a different substance) under strictly controlled conditions in a batch system. Operations such as loading and emptying of equipments or vessels occur through means of rigorous containment and very strictly procedures are followed by the operators who also wear Personal Protective Equipments (special disposable overall, protective mask with specific filter, protective gloves).

The imported substance is provided to us in closed drums appropriately labelled.

The storage is made in a warehouse under monitored temperature and humidity, away from heat sources, drains and watercourses;

(b) procedural and control technologies are used in order to eliminate the substance emission and any resulting exposure;

(c) the substance is handled only by trained and authorized personnel;

(d) in the case of cleaning and maintenance works, special procedures are applied before the system is opened and entered; furthermore, suitable PPE are adopted in accordance with the specific operating procedure.

(e) in cases of accident/spillage there is an Emergency Plan for minimizing the substance emissions and the consequent potential exposure;

(f) substance is handled by trained personnel only;

(g) substance-handling procedures are well documented and strictly supervised by the site operator.

A periodic environmental monitoring confirms the efficacy of the above practices.

Details about the exposure control are given in the "RMM_details" which is attached in section 13 of the Registration Dossier.

Stability and reactivity

Danger other than fire: There is no reaction with water.

Chemical reaction with water: The substance is quite inert.

Dust explosion: At a low level comparable to many other commonly organic substances.

Dust explosion determined by test: N.

Disposal considerations

- Liquid wastes and wastewater are generated during the synthesis phase (performed in the reactor) and during the purification (hydroextraction). The liquid waste (mainly composed of solvents) is directed to external disposal (organic liquid waste from centrifuge) ; wastewaters, after a pre-treatment for salts extraction, are treated in the internal Waste Water Treatment Plant.

- Air captured from vacuum pumps and equipment vents (included the nitrogen flow) are conveyed through scrubbers toward the Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer (RTO).

- Used containers are directed to external disposal.

Further details are reported in the "RMM_details" which is attached in section 13 of the Registration Dossier.
