 Two study reports (rated as Klimisch 1) on aquatic organisms are available covering two trophic levels: a primary producer (freshwater algae, represented by the model species Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata) and a primary consumer (aquatic invertebrates, represented by the model species Daphnia magna).

D. magna was exposed for 48 hours to strontium dichlorophthalate in a static short-term GLP toxicity study (OECD 202) at a limit concentration of 104 mg/L (measured). No effect on D. magna was observed. The test concentration was determined analytically by HPLC-UV.  

The freshwater algae P. subcapitata was exposed to strontium dichlorophthalate for 72 hours in a GLP toxicity study (OECD 201). In this study the the highest concentration of 100 mg test item/L caused 2.5 % growth inhibition which was significantly different from the control group. Therefore, the LOErC was determined to equal 100 mg test item/L and the NOErC equals 32 mg/L. ErC10 or ErC50 values could not be determined as the effect caused by the tested concentrations was too low (2. 5 %). The test concentrations were determined analytically by HPLC-UV. 

 

Taking into account that no acute toxicity is recorded up to 100 mg/L and the chronic NOErC from the algae study equals is 32 mg/L strontium dichlorophthalate does not have to be classified following the provisions laid down in the CLP Regulation (Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008).
