Applicant's summary and conclusion
- Interpretation of results:
- GHS criteria not met
- Conclusions:
- Based on the results of preliminary and main test, it is concluded that Polyperin Y was a non oxidizing substance.
- Executive summary:
This study entitled “Determination of Oxidizing Properties of PolyPerin Y” was performed according to the guideline EEC A.17. “Oxidizing Properties”.
The Study was performed in two parts: 1) Preliminary test and 2) Main test (Train test). In preliminary test a 60% mixture of barium nitrate by weight was prepared with powdered cellulose which was used as a reference mixture for evaluation of oxidizing properties of a test item. From the results of preliminary test, the test item was considered to be non oxidizing as the reaction of test item mixture was less vigorous than reference mixture.
As the test item was found non oxidizing in preliminary test, the main test (train test) was conducted. Mixtures of oxidizer (test item) with cellulose containing 10 to 90 % weight of oxidizer in 10% increments were prepared. The piles of test item mixtures and reference item mixture (60% barium nitrate + 40% cellulose) were formed by means of a mould (length of 250 mm and a triangular cross-section with an inner height of 10 mm and an inner width of 20 mm) on base plate. One end of the pile was ignited with the flame. The time of the reaction (seconds) was measured over a distance of 200 mm after the reaction zone has propagated an initial distance of 30 mm for different ratios of test item with cellulose and for reference item mixture with cellulose. Burning rate was expressed in millimeters per second. The burning rates of different ratios of test item mixtures were found to be less than that of the reference mixture. From the results of main test, the test item was considered to be non oxidizing as the burning rates of test item mixtures were less than reference item mixture.
Based on the results of preliminary and main test, it is concluded that Polyperin Y is a non oxidizing substance.
