Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
melting point/freezing point
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
02 November 2015 - 17 December 2015
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Reason / purpose for cross-reference:
reference to same study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.1 (Melting / Freezing Temperature)
Version / remarks:
2008
Deviations:
no
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
OECD Guideline 102 (Melting point / Melting Range)
Version / remarks:
1995
Deviations:
no
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EPA OPPTS 830.7200 (Melting Point / Melting Range)
Version / remarks:
1998
Deviations:
no
Principles of method if other than guideline:
The freezing point of the substance could not be determined from the DSC experiments according to the EC A.1, OECD 102 and OPPTS 830.7200 test guidelines. An additional experiment was therefore performed in which the consistency of the substance was determined by visual observation after storage in freezers at -20°C and -80°C. The additional experiment is not a guideline study but described in sufficient detail.
GLP compliance:
yes
Type of method:
other: visual observation after storage in freezer
Key result
Melting / freezing pt.:
> -80 - < -20 °C
Remarks on result:
other: Result of the visual observation after storage in freezers

DSC experiments: in none of the 4 experiments, melting/freezing was observed in the temperature range tested (-90°C to 25°C).

Visual observation after storage in freezers:

- After storage at ca. -20°C, the test substance was observed to be a liquid

- After storage at ca. -80°C, the test substance was observed to be a solid.

Based on these results, the freezing point is concluded to be >-80 - <-20°C.

Conclusions:
The freezing temperature of the substance was determined to be between -80°C - and -20°C.
Executive summary:

The freezing point of the substance could not be determined using differential scanning calorimetry in a GLP study according to EC A.1, OECD 102 and OPPTS 830.7200.

In an additional GLP experiment, the freezing temperature was determined by visual observation after storage in freezers. No guideline was followed. After storage at ca. -20°C, the test substance was observed to be a liquid. After storage at ca. -80°C, the test substance was observed to be a solid. Based on these results, it was concluded that the freezing temperature of the substance is between -80°C and -20°C.

Description of key information

The freezing temperature of the substance was determined to be between -80°C and -20°C.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Melting / freezing point at 101 325 Pa:
-20 °C

Additional information

Determined by visual observation after storage in freezers.
