- The mean surface tension of double-distilled water was measured to be 72.9 mN/m which gave a calibration factor of 72.75/72.9 = 0.9979.

- The mean surface tension of the 90 % saturated solution of the test material, at 20 °C, was 37.25 mN/m.

- Correcting for calibration gave a value of 37.25 × 0.9979 = 37.17 mN/m.

- As the corrected value was < 60 mN/m the Harkins-Jordan correction was also applied as follows:

Final corrected result = (37.17 × 1.06) – 4.75 =34.65 mN/m

Substances showing a surface tension of lower than 60 mN/m under the conditions of the method used are regarded as surface active.

Conclusions:
Under the conditions of this study the surface tension of the test material was 34.65 mN/m. As the surface tension, after correction for calibration, was < 60 mN/m the test material was considered to be surface active.

The surface tension of the test material was investigated in accordance with the standardised guideline OECD 115, under GLP conditions.

The surface tension of the 90 % saturated test material solution was measured by the harmonised ring method.
