ETMA is reported to be a clear colourless liquid at 20°C and 1013 hPa (visual assessment during test on physicochemical properties (melting point)).

 

The melting point of ETMA was determined according to OECD Guideline 102, adopted 27th July 1995, and EU Method A.1, May 2008 by differential scanning calorimetry. ETMA has no melting/freezing point at atmospheric pressure (1013 hPa) down to a temperature of -100°C.

 

The boiling point of ETMA was determined according to OECD Guideline 103, adopted 27th July 1995, and EU Method A.2, 30 May 2008 (Siwoloboff method). No boiling point for ETMA could be determined due to decomposition of the test item at approx. 185°C.

 

The density of ETMA is reported to be 0.9632 g/cm³ at 20°C (determined according to OECD Guideline 109, adopted 27th July 1995 and EU Method A.3, May 2008; pycnometer method).

 

In accordance with column 2 of REACH regulation annex VII, a granulometry test does not need to be conducted as the substance is a liquid.

The vapour pressure of ETMA was determined according to OECD guideline 104, adopted 23 March 2006 and EU method A.4, May 2008.ETMA is reported to have a vapour pressure of 9.6 Pa at 20°C, 17.7 Pa at 25°C and 213.6 Pa at 50°C.

 

The n-Octanol/Waterpartition coefficient (log Pow) of ETMA was determined according toOECD Guideline 117, adopted 13 April 2004, and EU Method A.8, 30 May 2008; HPLC method. The log Pow was 1.8 at 23.3°C.

 

The water solubility of ETMA was determined according to OECD Guideline 105, adopted 27th July 1995 and EU Method A.6, 30 May 2008; flask method. The water solubility of of ETMA is reported bo be 17.05 g/L (pH 5.3) at 20°C.

In accordance with column 2 of REACH regulation annex VII, surface tension testing does not need to be conducted. Based on structure, no surface activity is expected. The test substance is not used as detergent.

 

The flash point of ETMA was determined according to EU test method A.9, 30 May 2008 (Pensky-Martens and Rapid-Tester). The flash point of ETMA is reported to be 69.5C at 1013 hPa.

 

The auto-ignition temperature of ETMA was determined according to EU test method A.15, 30 May 2008, and DIN 51794).The auto-ignition temperature is reported to be205°C at 1006 hPa.

 

According to REACH Regulation (Annex XI, 1.), the study on flammability  does not need to be conducted if the available data are sufficient for assessment. For ETMA, tests on flash point and auto-ignition are available. Pyrophoricity and flammability on contact with water are not expected based on a consideration of the structure of the substance.

 

In accordance with column 2 of REACH regulation annex VII, explosive properties testing does not need to be conducted as there are no chemical groups associated with explosive properties in the molecule.

 

In accordance with column 2 of REACH regulation annex VII, oxidising properties testing does not need to be conducted on the basis of chemical structure.
