Description of key information

There are no bioaccumulation data for the Registration material.

A structurally similar substance in the Category (Calcium High-Overbased Phenate Sulfide) did not demonstrate a potential to bioconcentrate in a non-guideline non-GLP study. The BCF derived was 2.2. Although a non-guideline study, the results are considered informative for these materials, and significantly better than utilising screening criteria such as log Kow values. This study is being used as read across from Phenol, tetrapropenyl-, sulfurized, carbonates, calcium salts, overbased CAS No. 122384-86-5.

There were no available data on the substance itself and as such read-across from a similar structure within the Category has been used to address this endpoint which has a non-guideline study reporting relatively reliable information. The study is a specialized method that was developed due to very limited water solubility and difficulty in analysis.

This study is being used as read across from Phenol, tetrapropenyl-, sulfurized, carbonates, calcium salts, overbased CAS No. 122384-86-5.

SPMDs are low-density polyethylene tubing, with a pore-size similar to the cell membranes in fish. SPMDs are filled with the lipid triolein, the predominant lipid in fishes, and function as "model fish or mollusks" with selective membranes and lipid reservoirs that concentrate organic compounds from water. SPMD technology was used to screen petroleum additives for their potential to bioconcentrate. Using methodology presented at the 10th International Colloquium Tribology, Stuttgart/Ostfildern, Germany, Calcium High-Overbased (HOB) Phenate Sulfide did not demonstrate a potential to bioconcentrate. The BCF was determined to be 2.2.
