Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

2017-05-30 to 2017-08-23
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Guideline:
EU Method A.16 (Relative Self-Ignition Temperature for Solids)
Version / remarks:
- Commission Regulation (EC) No.440/2008 laying down test methods pursuant to Regulation (EC) No.1907/2006 of the Euro-pean Parliament and of the Council on the Registration, Evalua-tion, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) (origi-nally published as Council Regulation (EC) No.440/2008, corrigen-dum according to Official Journal of the European Union (EN) dated June 3, 2008, L 143/55), Annex, Part A, A.16.: “Relative Self-Ignition Temperature for solids”, Official Journal of the Eu-ropean Union, L 142, Volume 51, 31 May 2008

Specific details on test material used for the study:
SOURCE OF TEST MATERIAL
- Source and lot/batch No.of test material: Kyowa Hakko Bio Co. Ltd. / batch 160060
- Expiration date of the lot/batch: 2018-12-01
- Purity test date:2016-12-01

STABILITY AND STORAGE CONDITIONS OF TEST MATERIAL
- Storage condition of test material: Ambient temperature (15 °C - 25 °C), protected from light
- Stability under test conditions: stable

TREATMENT OF TEST MATERIAL PRIOR TO TESTING
- Treatment of test material prior to testing: none
Key result
Relative self-ignition temperature:
> 386.4 - < 386.8 °C
Conclusions:
The test item showed a self-ignition reaction at 386.8 °C and 386.4°C.
Executive summary:

Using a linear increase in temperature of 0.5 °C/min up to about 400 °C, the test item L-(+)-2,5 -diaminopentanoic acid (L-Orn-HCl) showed a sharp temperature rise above the oven temperature. The test was performed two times and the self-ignition temperature of the test item was: 386.8 °C and 386.4 °C. At the end of measurement the test item was solid and the colour was brown-black.

It has to be noted that L-(+)-2,5 -diaminopentanoic acid (L-Orn-HCl) decomposes at ca. 245 °C

The test item showed a self-ignition reaction at 386.8 °C and 386.4°C.

Description of key information

The test item showed a self-ignition reaction at 386.8 °C and 386.4°C.

It has to be noted that L-(+)-2,5 -diaminopentanoic acid (L-Orn-HCl) decomposes at ca. 245 °C

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Autoflammability / Self-ignition temperature at 101 325 Pa:
386.6 °C

Additional information

Classification as a flammable substance as to CLP-Regulation is not justified (see study on flammability).
