The phototransformation of butyl isocyanate was estimated by the means of AOPWIN program v1.91 assuming 24 h per day and an OH radical concentration of 0.5 E6 molcecules/cm³. A dissipation half life of 4 days was derived (Bayer Industry Services, 2004).

n-Butyl isocyanate is not stable in aqueous media rapidly hydrolysing under the formation of CO2 and the water soluble hydrolysis products n-butylamine and di-n-butylurea. At time 0 (6 min after preparation of test solution) n-butylisocyanate was decomposed completely. Therefore, the half-life of n-butylisocyanate in aqueous media is less than 6 min ( Bayer Industry Services 2005).
