Description of key information

Toxicity to aquatic algae: ErC50/72h = 399.78 mg/L / LOEC/72h/growth rate = 37 mg/L / NOEC/72h/growth rate = 12 mg/L / EyC50/72 h = 171.28 mg/L / LOEC/72h/yield = 12 mg/L / NOEC/72h/yield = 4.0 mg/L for Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata (OECD 201, GLP, static)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
399.78 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
12 mg/L

Additional information

There is a Klimisch 1 OECD 201 study available, indicating that 3 -Acetylpyridine does not need to be classified as hazardous to the aquatic environment. This is based on an ErC50 (72h) of 399.78 mg/L, the 72h NOEC(growth rate) of 12 mg/L and the fact that the substance is very soluble in water and readily biodegradable. There is no indication given that the results from this study are not reliable, the data requirements according to REACh Annex VII are met and no need for further testing was identified.
