Description of key information

Sodium propylparaben (CAS 35285-69-9) is considered readily biodegradable. No further data on environmental fate and pathways is required due to waiving.

Additional information

In accordance with Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006, Column 2 of Annex VIII, section 9.2.2.1, testing of the hydrolysis as a function of pH is not required as the substance is readily biodegradable. Data on photodegradation are not mandatory at this tonnage band.

Based on an analogue read across to the corresponding acid propylparaben (CAS 94-13-3) sodium propylparaben (CAS 35285-69-9) is considered readily biodegradable. 91.5% degradation were attained in 28 days. Data on biodegradation in water & sediment and in soil as well are not mandatory at this tonnage band.

In accordance with Regulation (EC) 1907/2006, Column 2 of Annex VIII, section 9.3.1, studies on adsorption/desorption do not have to be conducted as the substance has a low potential for adsorption based on a log Kow < 3 (0.27).
