Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

PNECs have been derived for freshwater, marine water, and the STP using the available endpoints. The PNECs were calculated using endpoints obtained using freshwater aquatic species and STP microorganisms. PNEC values for sediment and soil were derived by the equilibrium partitioning method (EPM). No PNECs were calculated for air, or secondary poisoning as they are deemed to be unnecessary.

PNEC freshwater = 0.0184 mg/L

PNEC marine water = 0.00184 mg/L

PNEC STP = 8.55 mg/L

PNEC sediment (freshwater) = 0.526 mg/kg dw

PNEC sediment (marine) = 0.0526 mg/kg dw

PNEC soil = 0.09443 mg/kg dw

Conclusion on classification

Benzyl Acetate is not classified in accordance with Directive 67/548/EEC as the test material is readily biodegradable. However it is classified according to Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008 as Aquatic Chronic 3 (H412: Harmful to aquatic life with long lasting effects) due to the NOEC value of 0.92 mg/l in the chronic fish test. The measured Log Pow value for Benzyl Acetate is less than 3.0 and therefore is not expected to bioaccumulate.
