Additional information

One key study was identified for the short-term toxicity of DOWANOL TPnB (Tripropylene glycol n-butyl ether)to fish. This study was considered relibalbe and recieved a Klimisch score of 1. Young Poecilia reticulata (guppies) were exposed for 96 hours to concentrations of 56, 100, 180, 320, 560 and 1000 mg/l of DOWANOL TPnB in a semi-static system. These concentrations were selected from a previously conducted range-finding study. Twelve P. reticulata were exposed at each concentration (6 per replicate vessel). Observations were made at 24, 48, 72 and 96 hours.

Exposure for 24 hours resulted in the death of all fish at the highest concentration of 1000 mg/L. At 560 mg/l, 42% mortality was seen after 96 hours of exposure. No mortality was seen at 320 mg/l and lower. The 96 hours LC50-alue of DOWANOL TPnB was calculated to be 564 mg/l with 95% confridence intervals ranging from 501 to 691 mg/l. Besides mortality other effects seen were increase of pigmentation, hyper-reactivity and total inhibition of swimming ability. The 96 hour EC50 was reported between 180 and 320 mg/l with a no observed effect concentration (NOEC) for DOWANOL TPnB of 180 mg/l. No control mortality was observed during the study conduct.
