Additional information

No data on biodegradation of sodium 2-methylbutan-2-olate is available. Sodium-2-methylbutan-2-olate hydrolyses immediately in contact with water. The hydrolysis product sodium hydroxide (CAS No. 1310-73-2) is an inorganic substance and is not undergoing biodegradation. Therefore, the organic hydrolysis product 2-methylbutan-2-ol (CAS No. 75-85-4) is the relevant substance regarding biodegradation. For 2-methylbutan-2-ol a REACh dossier is publically available on the homepage of ECHA. 2-Methylbutan-2-ol was determined to be moderately biodegradable and to be well eliminated.

As the substance is used as a transported intermediate and hydrolyses rapidly, no further studies were conducted. The classification of the substance is based on the hydrolysis products and neither of the hydrolysis products is classified for environmental hazards.
