Additional information

The PNECs for the reaction mass of magnesium carbonate and magnesium hydroxide and magnesium oxide or magnesium peroxide are based on the corresponding PNECs that are available for hydrogen peroxide, taking into account that:

a) according to the stoichiometry of the hydrolysis reaction of magnesium peroxide, an equimolar amount of hydrogen peroxide is formed; and that

b) the reaction mass of magnesium carbonate and magnesium hydroxide and magnesium oxide and magnesium peroxide typically contains ca. 37% of magnesium peroxide.

PNEC fresh and marine water

PNEC FW (hydrogen peroxide): 0.0126 mg/L

PNEC SW (hydrogen peroxide): 0.0126 mg/L

a) stoichiometrie

0.0126 mg hydrogen peroxide           = 3.70E-07 mol hydrogen peroxide

= 3.70E-07 mol magnesium peroxide

3.70E-07 mol magnesium peroxide    = 0.021 mg magnesium peroxide

PNEC (magnesium peroxide)             = 0.021 mg/L

b) composition of reaction mass

PNEC (magnesium peroxide)            = 0.021 mg/L

PNEC (reaction mass)                        = 0.056 mg/L

The PNEC FW and PNEC SW for the reaction mass of magnesium carbonate and magnesium hydroxide and magnesium oxide and magnesium peroxide is 0.056 mg/L.

PNEC Intermittent release

PNEC IR (hydrogen peroxide): 0.0138 mg/L

a) stoichiometrie

0.0138 mg hydrogen peroxide           = 4.06E-07 mol hydrogen peroxide

= 4.06E-07 mol magnesium peroxide

4.06E-07 mol magnesium peroxide    = 0.023 mg magnesium peroxide

PNEC IR (magnesium peroxide)       = 0.023 mg/L

b) composition of reaction mass

PNEC IR (magnesium peroxide)       = 0.023 mg/L

PNEC IR (reaction mass)                   = 0.062 mg/L

The PNEC IR for the reaction mass of magnesium carbonate and magnesium hydroxide and magnesium oxide and magnesium peroxide is 0.062 mg/L.

PNEC STP

The PNEC for the STP can be derived from the valid STP study according to OECD Guideline No. 209 (Desmares-Koopmans, 2012). This study found a 3h-NOEC of 30 mg/L and a 3h-EC50 value > 1000 mg/L.

The PNEC STP is calculated by applying a factor of 100 to the EC50 value, resulting in a PNEC STP of 10 mg/L.

PNEC fresh and marine water sediment

PNEC FW sediment (hydrogen peroxide): 0.047 mg/kg sediment dw

PNEC SW sediment (hydrogen peroxide): 0.047 mg/kd sediment dw

a) stoichiometrie

0.047 mg hydrogen peroxide             = 1.38E-06 mol hydrogen peroxide

= 1.38E-06 mol magnesium peroxide

1.38 E-06 mol magnesium peroxide   = 0.078 mg magnesium peroxide

PNEC (magnesium peroxide)            = 0.078 mg/kd sediment dw

b) composition of reaction mass

PNEC (magnesium peroxide)            = 0.078 mg/kd sediment dw

PNEC (reaction mass)                        = 0.210 mg/kd sediment dw

The PNEC FW sediment and PNEC SW sediment for the reaction mass of magnesium carbonate and magnesium hydroxide and magnesium oxide and magnesium peroxide is 0.210 mg/kd sediment dw.

a) stoichiometrie

0.047 mg hydrogen peroxide             = 6.76E-08 mol hydrogen peroxide

= 6.76E-08 mol magnesium peroxide

6.76E-08 mol magnesium peroxide    = 0.0038 mg magnesium peroxide

PNEC (magnesium peroxide)            = 0.0038 mg/kd soil dw

b) composition of reaction mass

PNEC (magnesium peroxide)            = 0.0038 mg/kd soil dw

PNEC (reaction mass)                        = 0.010 mg/kd soil dw

The PNEC soil for the reaction mass of magnesium carbonate and magnesium hydroxide and magnesium oxide and magnesium peroxide is 0.010 mg/kd soil dw.
