Birds:


Acute toxicity (Mallard duck, Bobwhite quail): LD50 > 4640 mg/kg bw


Long-term toxicity (Avian reproduction, Bobwhite quail): NOEC = 500 ppm (male/female) (equivalent to 45.2 / 42.9 mg/kg bw/day (male/female))


Long-term toxicity (Avian reproduction, Mallard Ducks): NOAEL = 9.7 mg/kg bw/day

Toxicity to birds: Toxicity data have been provided addressing acute, one-generation toxicity and reproductive toxicity to birds for the test item.


Acute toxicity: Two acute oral toxicity studies are available, performed on mallard duck (Anas platyrhynchos) and Bobwhite Quail (Colinus virqinianus). All two studies resulted in an LD50 of > 4640 mg/kg bw.

Toxicity and reproduction study: One study to determine the general toxic effects of the test item on a one-generation toxicity and reproduction study in young adult male and female mallard ducks (Anas platyrhynchos) approaching their first breeding season are available. Special emphasis was placed on hatchability of eggs and viability of the offspring. For both male and female ducks the NOEC is 100 ppm, which is equivalent to 9.7 mg/kg bw/d.

Long-term toxicity: One reproductive study performed on bobwhite quail (Colinus virginianus) is available. This study is scientifically sound and fulfils the requirements for an avian reproduction test. There were no treatment-related effects observed in bobwhite quail that were fed with the test item for 24 weeks at nominal concentrations of 20, 100, and 500 ppm. The NOAEL was 500 ppm which is equivalent to 45.2 mg/kg bw/d for male ducks and 42.9 mg/kg bw/d for female ducks.
