Specific details on test material used for the study:
The classification procedure for substances liable to self-heating is based on the hot
storage test, which is carried out in a ventilated oven at temperatures of 140°C, 120°C
and 100°C. The latter two are optional for packing volumes below 3 m^3 and 450 L
respectively. The sample is filled in a cubical wire mesh basket with a content of 1000 mL
(10 cm x 10 cm x 10 cm) or 15.6 mL (2.5 cm x 2.5 cm x 2.5 cm). The temperature of the
sample is measured by a thermocouple placed in its center. The temperature is monitored
for at least 24 h and is compared to the oven temperature. Spontaneous ignition or selfheating
is indicated by a 60°C rise in temperature over the oven temperature within 24
hours.

A hot storage test was carried out at a constant oven temperature of 140°C and a volume of
15.6 mL (2.5 cm width). The net weight of the sample was 5.9 g.

Conclusions:
Because no test was performed in a 1000 ml cubical wire mesh basket at 140°C the classification below is based on the assumption of a positive result of such a test.
Consequently:
The auto-ignition temperature of the sample “PIGMENT 0245N” (as is) - 1000 ml
cubical wire mesh basket is lower than 140°C. (“Assumption”)
The auto-ignition temperature of the sample “PIGMENT 0245N” (as is) - 16 ml
cubical wire mesh basket is higher than 140°C.
The auto-ignition temperature of the sample “PIGMENT 0245N” (as is) - 1000 ml
cubical wire mesh basket is higher than 120°C.
The following classifications can thus be assigned to the sample “PIGMENT 0245N”
according to UN Transportation of dangerous goods and the CLP regulation:
• Classification according to UN: Self-heating substance of Division 4.2 (Packing
Group III) – “Exempted if transported in packages of not more than 3 m³ volume”.

• Classification according CLP [2009]: Self heating solid “Category 2” / H 252: Selfheating
in large quantities; may catch fire. “Exempted if transported in packages of
not more than 3 m³ volume”.
