Results:

Pre-test:

The flash point of the test item was estimated at 118.5 °C during the pre-test.

First determination:

The flash point of the test item was estimated at 119.0°C during the first determination.

An automatic correction was applied to the obtained result because the ambient pressure was not 101.3 kPa but 98.5 kPa.

With this correction, the flash point value is 119.5°C at 101.3 kPa.

Second determination:

The flash point was detected at 120.0°C and the same automatic correction was applied because the ambient pressure was still 98.5 kPa.

With this correction, the flash point value is 120.5 °C at 101.3 kPa.

Conclusions:
The corrected flash point of 7-METHOXY-3,7-DIMETHYLOCTAN-2-OL MULTICONSTITUENT was determined to be 119 °C at 101.3 kPa (lowest value of two independent determinations without decimal).
Executive summary:

A study was performed to determine the flash point of the test item 7 -METHOXY-3,7 -DIMETHYLOCTAN-2 -OL MULTICONSTITUENT. The method followed was designed to be compliant with the Method A.9 of Commission Regulation No. 440/2008, ''Flash Point''.

The flash point of the test item is determined with a closed cup tester, by an equilibrium method called "Small Scale", (commonly known as Setaflash).

The substance is placed into a test cup and heated using a temperature gradient program. Ignition trials are carried out in order to ascertain whether or not the sample flashes at the temperature tested.

A pre-test followed by two determinations were conducted. For the pre-test, a flash point of 118.5 °C was observed. This data was used to select the range of temperatures for the following determinations.

Determinations 1 and 2 respectively gave a corrected flash point of 120.5 °C and 119.5 °C at 101.3kPa.

Moreover the flash point of the reference substances glycerol and CRM respects the checking cards limits.

The corrected flash point of the test item was determined to be 119 °C at 101.3 kPa (lowest value of two independent determinations without decimal).

Description of key information

The flash point of 7-METHOXY-3,7-DIMETHYLOCTAN-2-OL MULTICONSTITUENT was determined to be 119°C at 101.3 kPa.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flash point at 101 325 Pa:
119 °C

Additional information

The flash point of 7-METHOXY-3,7-DIMETHYLOCTAN-2-OL MULTICONSTITUENT was determined in a study performed according to EU method A.9. Therefore, a reliability of 1 is assigned and the result of this key study is proposed as the end point value.
