Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Data on the acute toxicity of the target substance Fatty acids, C18-unsatd., dimers, polymers with 2-ethylhexanol and neopentyl glycol (CAS 68552-19-2) to aquatic algae are not available. The assessment was therefore based on studies conducted with the source substances Fatty acids, C18-unsatd., dimers, mixed esters with oleic acid and trimethylolpropane (CAS 147256-33-5) and Fatty acids, C18-unsatd., dimers, 2-ethylhexyl esters (CAS 68334-05-4) as part of a read across approach, which is in accordance with Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006, Annex XI, 1.5. Further justification is given within the analogue justification in IUCLID section 13.

The toxicity of the source substance Fatty acids, C18-unsatd., dimers, mixed esters with oleic acid and trimethylolpropane (CAS 147256-33-5) to freshwater algae was tested according to OECD guideline 201. The test was conducted with Desmodesmus subspicatus as test organism. The test was set up as a limit test using a water accommodated fraction (WAF) with a loading rate of 100 mg/L as test concentration. No analytical monitoring was performed. Based on the algal growth rate an EL50 (72 h) > 100 mg/L (nominal) was determined. The corresponding NOELR (72 h) was ≥ 100 mg/L (nominal).

Equivalent results were determined in a study with the source substance Fatty acids, C18-unsatd., dimers, 2-ethylhexyl esters (CAS 68334-05-4). The test followed OECD guideline 201 (GLP) and was set up as a limit test. The tested loading rate was 100 mg/L (WAF). Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata were exposed to the substance for 72 hours. Based on the algal growth rate an EL50 (72 h) > 100 mg/L (nominal) was determined. The determined NOELR (72 h) was ≥ 100 mg/L (nominal).

Based on the results of the suitable source substances (in accordance to Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 Annex XI, 1.5) toxic effects of Fatty acids, C18-unsatd., dimers, polymers with 2-ethylhexanol and neopentyl glycol (CAS 68552-19-2) on aquatic algae up to the limit of water solubility are not expected.
