Irritant / corrosive response data:
Application of the test item to healthy rabbit conjunctivae resulted in a primary eye irritation score of 0.44.
The eye reactions (mean values 24 to 72 hours) consisted of grade 0.00 corneal opacity, grade 0.00 iris lesions, grade 0.44 redness of the conjunctivae and geade 0.00 chemosis of the conjunctivae.
No abnomal findings were observed in the cornea of any animal at any of the measuring intervals.
Moderate reddening of the conjunctivae was observed in all animals 1 hour after treatment. This effect decreased in severity in all animals at the 24-hour reading and was no longer evident 72 hours after treatment.
Slight swelling of the conjuctivae was apparent in all animals 1 hour after treatment. Slight to moderate reddening of the sclerae was evident in all animals at the 1-hour reading and slight reddening continued to be observed in two animals up to 24 hours after treatment.
No abnormal findings were observed in the treated eye of any animal 72 hours after treatment, the end of the observation period for all animals.
Other effects:
No clincal signs of systemic toxicity were observed in the animals during the study and no mortality occurred.
The body weights of all rabbits were considered to be within the normal range of variability.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Interpretation of results:
not irritating
Remarks:
Migrated information Criteria used for interpretation of results: OECD GHS
Conclusions:
With reference the reported scores and the the reversibility of the effects of effects within 72 h the test substance does not have to be classified as irritant to the eyes according to the criteria laid down in the EU Classification Labelling and Packaging Regulation (1272/2008/EC).
Executive summary:

The substance was tested for its eye irritant properties in 3 New Zealand White rabbits. The study was performed according to OECD Guideline 405.

Effects on conjunctivae (redness and swelling) were observed in all animals one hour after application. These signs were fully reversible within 72 hours.

With reference the reported scores and the the reversibility of the effects of effects within 72 h the test item does not have to be classified as irritant to the eyes according to the criteria laid down in the EU Classification Labelling and Packaging Regulation (1272/2008/EC).
