Details on test solutions:
PREPARATION AND APPLICATION OF TEST SOLUTION (especially for difficult test substances)- Method: Corresponding amount added to dilution water and shaked vigorously for 23 hours. The resulting solution was filtrated through 0.45 µm nylon filters. The filter was rinsed with an aliquot of the respective water-accommodated fraction (WAF) before filling the test vessel. Then the water-accommodated fraction (WAF) was filtered in a glass beaker. This solution was transferred into the 4 replicates of the test vessels.- Dilution water specification: CaCl2*2H2O: 293.80 mg/LMgSO4*7H2O: 123.30 mg/LNaHCO3: 64.80 mg/LResulting hardness in mmol/L: 2.502Resulting hardness in mg CaCO3/L: 250

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Validity criteria fulfilled:
yes
Conclusions:
The short term toxicity of MAEEBP against Daphnia magna STRAUS was tested according to OECD 202 resp. EU C.2. The 48 h-EC50 value, based on the geometric mean of the measured concentrations, was determined to be 7.6 mg/L.
Executive summary:

The short term toxicity of MAEEBP against Daphnia magna STRAUS was tested according to OECD 202 resp. EU C.2. For each test concentration, 20 Daphnia were exposed to the test item (46 / 22 / 10 / 4.6 / 2.2 mg) for 48 hours in a semi static test system. After 24 and 48 hours, the immobilised Daphnia were counted. 3 concentrations showed toxicity between 65 and 100% immobilisation after 48 hours. None of the animals were immobilised in the control. Potassium dichromate K2Cr2O7(CAS No. 7778-50-9) was used as positive control in a current reference study. The 24h-EC50 value was determined as 1.6 mg/L, lying within the demanded range of 0.6 – 1.7 mg/L stated in the EU guideline.

The concentration of the test item in the test solutions was determined using HPLC measurement at the start and at the end of the test and at medium renewal after 24 hours. Because of the limited solubility in test medium the correlation between nominal and measured concentration was weak and the measured concentrations in the higher concentrated treatments were in a similar range. Therefore, the determination of the results was based on the geometric mean of the measured concentrations.

The following results were determined for the test item MAEEBP(species:Daphnia magna).

48h-NOEC = 4.0 mg/L
48h-LOEC = 7.9 mg/L
24
h-EC50 = 14 mg/L
48h-EC50 = 7.6 mg/L
