Guidance on Safe Use

First-aid measures

- Inhalation:

Remove victim to fresh air and keep at rest in a position comfortable for breathing. Call a POISON CENTER or doctor/physician. Show the Safety Data Sheet to the doctor.

- Skin contact:

Remove/Take off immediately all contaminated clothing. Place contaminated clothing in a sealed bag for disposal. If on skin, wash with plenty of soap and water, wash immediately and thoroughly for a prolonged period (at least 15 minutes). Call a POISON CENTER or doctor/physician if you feel unwell. Show the Safety Data Sheet to the doctor.

- Eye contact:

Rinse with running water whilst keeping the eyes wide open (at least 15 minutes). If irritation persists, consult a doctor/physician. Show the Safety Data Sheet to the doctor.

- Ingestion:

Immediately call a POISON CENTER or doctor/physician. Rinse mouth. NEVER attempt to induce vomiting. Do not give anything to drink. Show the Safety Data Sheet to the doctor.

- Protection of first-aiders: Do NOT enter without appropriate protective equipment. Use appropriate protective equipment when treating a contaminated person.

- Further information: Establish a first aid action plan before using this product.

Fire-fighting measures

- Extinguishing media

Suitable: Water spray, Carbon dioxide (CO2), Powders

Not suitable: None. If there is a fire close by, use suitable extinguishing agents.

- Specific hazards : During combustion, toxic gases are released.

- Specific fire fighting methods: Cool down the containers/equipment exposed to heat with a water spray. Do not breathe fumes. Use appropriate means for fighting adjacent fires. Stay upwind. Evacuate the personnel away from the fumes. Do NOT attempt to fight the fire without suitable protective equipment.

- Protection of fire-fighters: Self-contained breathing apparatus. Boots, gloves, goggles.

Accidental release measures

- Personal precautions: Avoid contact with eyes, skin and respiratory system. If spillage occurs on the public highway, indicate the danger and notify the authorities (police, fire brigade). Do not breathe vapours. Do NOT attempt to take action WITHOUT suitable protective equipment. Do NOT approach from DOWNWIND. NO flames, NO sparks. Eliminate all sources of ignition. Prevent the product from spreading into the environment. Personal protective equipment: self-contained breathing apparatus, appropriate gloves, water-proof boots. Mark out the contaminated area with signs and prevent access to unauthorized personnel. Only qualified personnel equipped with suitable protective equipment may intervene. Shelter from vapours by keeping upwind. Remove all incompatible materials as quickly as possible: oxidizing materials, alkalis and caustic products.

- Environmental precautions : Contain the spilled material by bunding (product is hazardous for the environment). Cool the product down to solidify.

- Methods for cleaning up:

Recovery: Safety permitting, leave the product to solidify. Recover the product by vacuuming/shovelling or sweeping.

Cleaning/Decontamination: Wash the floor with plenty of water. Recover the cleaning water for subsequent disposal.

Handling and storage

HANDLING

- Technical measures: Vapour extraction at source. Install a retention tank.

- Measures: Use personal protective equipment as required. Avoid any direct contact with the product. Avoid contact with hot surfaces. Avoid exposure: Do NOT handle without gloves, Do NOT handle if hands have any cuts or wounds. This product must only be handled by skilled operators.

- Safe handling advice: Ensure that there is a suitable ventilation system. Comply with instructions for use. Obtain special instructions before use. Do not handle until all safety precautions have been read and understood.

STORAGE

- Technical measures: Storage facilities should be equipped with ventilation at low level. Ensure that there is a suitable retention system. Take all necessary measures to avoid accidental discharge of products into drains and waterways due to the rupture of containers or transfer systems.

- Recommended storage conditions: Store the container tightly closed, away from any source of heat, in a well-ventilated area, away from incompatible materials.

- Incompatible products: Alkalis and caustic products, oxidizing materials, metals.

- Recommended packaging materials: Steel.

SpecialProvisions

Exposure controls / personal protection

- Engineering measures: Full enclosure or very efficient local exhaust ventilation. Ensure good ventilation of the work station. Workplace and equipment are easy to decontaminate.

- Control parameters: Exposure limit values (Human Health)

- Surveillance procedures: Special medical surveillance. The recommended limits SHOULD NOT be exceeded. Monitor the atmosphere at regular intervals. Monitor and measure the contamination level of hands, clothing, surfaces,... Reduce exposure time to the minimum necessary. Mark out the danger area with appropriate signs. Designate a controlled work area. Access forbidden to unauthorised personnel.

- Personal protective equipment:

Respiratory protection:

Filtering respiratory protective device for protection against organic gas/vapours for any handling where DNT could be present. Keep the atmospheric concentration below the occupational exposure limits.

Hand protection:

Protective gloves made of rubber. Protective gloves must be chosen according to the function of the work station: other chemicals which may be handled, physical protection necessary (resistance to cutting, puncture, heat), dexterity required. The selection of gloves must take into account the extent and duration of use at the workstation. Use suitable chemical-resistant protective gloves (compliant with Standard EN 374-1).

Eye protection:

Safety spectacles and a face shield.

Skin and body protection:

Full protective clothing (waterproof fabric). Rubber boots.

Selection criteria:

Protective equipment must be chosen according to current CEN standards and in cooperation with the supplier of protective equipment. Personal protective equipment must be defined after risk assessment for the workstation.

- Collective emergency equipment:

Emergency equipment and first-aid box with instructions readily available. Safety shower. Eye fountain.

- Hygiene measures:

Use clean and correctly maintained personal protective equipment. Keep personal protective equipment in a clean place, away from the work area. Always take a shower after work. Always wash your hands immediately after handling this product, and once again before leaving the workplace. Do NOT drink, eat or smoke in the workplace. Contaminated clothing should not, in any circumstances, be washed or re-used.

Separate normal clothes from work-clothes. Work clothes must not be taken out of the workplace. Wash the floor and equipment frequently.

Stability and reactivity

- Stability: Stable at room temperature.

- Hazardous reactions:

Conditions to avoid: Above 100°C explosive decomposition is possible. May explode under specific conditions.

Materials to avoid : alkalis and caustic products, oxidizing materials, reactive metals (Al, K, Zn ...).

Hazardous decomposition products: On combustion or on thermal decomposition (pyrolysis) releases toxic gases (Nitrogen oxides).

Disposal considerations

Destruction/Disposal: Incinerate at a licensed installation.

- CONTAMINATED PACKAGING

Decontamination/cleaning : Clean with water. Treat the cleaning water following the above method for waste product.
