Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

A 48 -h EC50 of 23.3 mg/L was determined in a study testing the toxicity of DL-alpha-methylbenzylamine to Daphnia magna conducted according to Dir. 79/831/EEC, Annex V, Part C. (BASF AG, 1996). The effect of the substance on the mobility of D. magna is probably in part due to pH changes caused by the substance. In a parallel test with a neutralised sample of the two highest concentrations (50 and 100 mg/L) the toxicity of the test item was reduced as after 48 h the immobilisation was ca. 50% compared to 100% in the not-neutralised sample fo 50 mg/L. Moreover, the effects were delayed in time as 80% of the daphnids were immobilised after 48 h in the neutralised 100 mg/L sample while in the not-neutralised sample all daphnids were immobilised already after 3 h. The test item concentrations were analytically verified.
