Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Study conducted on the hydrolysis product of reference substance, boric acid.
The 14 day LC50 to Eisenia fetida is >1000 mg/kg soil dw (175 mg B/kg soil dw). The NOEC is 1000 mg/kg soil dw (175 mg B/kg soil dw).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Short-term EC50 or LC50 for soil macroorganisms:
175 mg/kg soil dw

Additional information

A study was conducted on Eisenia fetida according to OECD Guideline 207 (Earthworm, Acute Toxicity Tests).

Duration of exposure was 14 days. Test concentrations were 0, 1.1, 3.3, 10, 32, 100, 320, 1000 mg boric acid/kg.

At the highest test concentration (1000 mg/kg dw) no effects on survival, weight, behaviour and condition were observed after 14 days.

Adverse effects with respect to the behaviour and condition of the test animals were not observed at any concentration tested. The NOEC for these is therefore equal or greater than 1000 mg per kg dry soil.

14 days chronic NOEC data (added) were all unbounded, i.e. >= 174.8 mg B/kg.
