According to the REACH Regulation (EC 1907/2006), Annex VII, Column 2, the study does not need to be conducted if the organic substance contains chemical groups associated with explosive properties, but the exothermic decomposition energy is less than 500 J/g and the onset of exothermic decomposition is below 500 °C. The substance decomposes between 380 -450 °C, with an onset at 411.5 °C and a decomposition enthalpy of 85.5 J/g.
Justification for classification or non-classification
According to the CLP Regulation (EC 1272/2008), 2.1.4.2. Screening procedure section, the screening procedure is aimed at identifying the presence of such reactive groups and the potential for rapid energy release. If the screening procedure identifies the substance or mixture to be a potential explosive, the acceptance procedure (section 10.3 of the UN Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods, Manual of Tests and Criteria) has to be performed.
Screening procedure failed to evidence any reason of concern, based on the thermal behaviour.
Therefore, the substance is considered as non explosive, according to the CLP Regulation (EC 1272/2008).
