EC number: 415-170-5
CAS number: 90274-24-1
PAYLEAN; RACTOPAMINE HYDROCHLORIDE
Emergency measure - Inhalation: Remove person to fresh air. Get medical attention if
breathing difficulty occurs. If not breathing, provide
artificial respiration, seek medical attention.
Emergency measure - Eyes: Hold eyelids open and rinse with a steady stream of water
for 15 minutes. Seek medical attention immediately.
Emergency measure - Skin: Remove contaminated clothing (launder before reuse). Wash
skin with soap and water. Seek medical attention if
Emergency measure - Ingestion: Do not induce vomiting, seek medical attention.
If available, administer activated charcoal (6-8 heaped
teaspoons, 30-40 ml) with two to three glasses of water. Do
not give anything by mouth if person is unconscious.
Immediately transport to a medical care facility, seek
(Medical doctors: Monitor blood pressure, pulse, ECG, serum
potassium, blood sugar and cardiac enzymes. Treat as for
beta adrenergic agonists).
Recommended extinguishing agent: Suitable extinguishing agents are water, carbon dioxide, dry
chemical and foam.
If necessary, Halon may be used if other extinguishing media
are not available.
Product arising from burning: Combustion products may contain carbon and nitrogen oxides
together with some hydrogen chloride gas and soot.
Product determined by test: N
Protective equipment: Wear a self-contained breathing apparatus.
Emergency measures in case of spillage: Wear suitable protective equipment (cf. 2.3.1).
Prevent further migration into the environment.
Collect for disposal by incineration or at a controlled
Handling: Wear impervious gloves and body covering to prevent skin
contact together with chemical splash goggles for eye
protection and suitable respiratory protection. Local
exhaust ventilation should be used where possible.
Storage: No special precautions.
Packaging of the substance and or preparation: Not given.
Danger other than fire: The substance may react with strong oxidising agents (eg
peroxides, permanganates, nitric acid etc).
Chemical reaction with water: None reported.
Dust explosion determined by test: N
Industry - Possibility of recovery/recycling: Recovery for reuse is not possible.
Industry - Possibility of neutralisation: Neutralisation of the hazardous properties is not readily
achieved. The substance is stable at pH 4-9.
Industry - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: Disposal at a controlled landfill site is possible. (A650)
Industry - Possibility of destruction - incineration: Disposal by incineration at an approved facility equipped
with waste gas treatment to remove nitrogen oxides and
chlorine compounds is possible. (A661)
Industry - Possibility of destruction - water purification: Discharge to waste water treatment plant or surface waters
should normally be avoided. The substance is, however,
biodegradable and limited discharge may be possible in
compliance with local waste disposal regulations. After
formulation with the fedstuff, aqueous waste will be caught
in interceptor tanks before discharge, initially to the
local river and then to sewage works (from 1995), under
controlled conditions. (A641)
Public at large - Possibility of recovery/recycling: Recovery from treated feedstuffs is not possible.
Public at large - Possibility of neutralisation: Not applicable at the level in feedstuffs.
Public at large - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: Disposal at a controlled landfill site is possible.
Public at large - Possibility of destruction - incineration: Feedstuff coated with the substance may be disposed of in
Public at large - Possibility of destruction - water purification: Not recommednded.
