Because of the expected instability in water (hydrolysis) the solubility was determined at pH 4 (aqueous buffer solution).

Executive summary:

The water solubility of methyl valerate in aqueous buffer solution (pH 4.1) obtained after equilibration at 20 °C was determined using the flask method according to the OECD Guideline 105 (Water Solubility). Measurements were made at 20 °C in accordance with the guidance A.6 of the European Community giving a solubility in aqueous buffer solution (pH 4.1) at 20 °C of 3500 mg/L. Therefore methyl valerate can be considered as highly soluble in water.
