Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Skin corrosion/irritation

Experimental data on the potential of skin corrosion or irritation of 3-α-hydroxy-7-oxo-5-β-cholan-24-oic acid are not available.

QSAR Toolbox, has identified one structural alert for skin irritation (Ketones). Substances with "Ketones" structural alert can cause irritation of the skin as proposed by Hulzebos et al. In particular, ketones are considered “possible irritants”.

However, considering domains applicability (skin irritation potential, can be related to a combination of MW and log Pow, e.g., chemicals with MW< 200 and log Pow of  >2 had enhanced skin irritation potential) the substance is out of the domain because MW is > 200.

In order to estimates skin irritation potential from physicochemical property ranges and structural rules, the software Toxtree (v.2.6.13) has been used; prediction is “not irritating or corrosive to skin”.

Overall, hazard class "Skin corrosion/irritation" are judged as inconclusive for the classification.

Serious eye damage/eye irritation

Experimental data on the potential of eye corrosion or irritation of 3-α-hydroxy-7-oxo-5-β-cholan-24-oic acid are not available.

QSAR Toolbox has not identified any structural alert for eye irritation.

In order to estimates eye irritation potential from physicochemical property ranges and structural rules, the software Toxtree (v.2.6.13) has been used; prediction is “not skin corrosion R34 or R35”.

Overall, hazard class "Serious eye damage/eye irritation" are judged as inconclusive for the classification.
