no

Test solutions

Vehicle:
no
Details on test solutions:
The standard test procedures required generation of test solutions containing completely dissolved test substance concentrations or stable and homogeneous mixture or dispersions. The testing of concentrations that would disturb the test system was prevented (e. g. film of the test substance on the water surface).
Preparation started with a stock solution at 100 mg/l. Treatment with ultrasonic waves for 30 minutes was applied to dissolve the test substance in the test medium. The various test concentrations were prepared by subsequent dilutions of the the 100 mg/l stock in test medium. The final test solutions were all clear and colourless.

Test organisms

Test organisms (species):
Daphnia magna
Details on test organisms:
TEST ORGANISM
- Common name: Daphnia magna (Crustacea, Cladocera)
- Age at study initiation (mean and range, SD): < 24 hours

- Method of breeding: The daphnia were bred with new-born animals, i. e. less than 3 days old, by placing about 250 of them into 10 litres of medium in an all-glass culture vessel. The maximum age of the cultures were 4 weeks. The renewal of the cultures were performed after 7 days of cultivation half of the medium twice a week. The temperature of the medium was hold at 18 - 22°C. Feeding was done daily, a suspension of fresh water algae. Breeding was performed in a M7medium, as prescribed by Dr. Elendt-Schneider (Elendt, B.-P., 1990)

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Validity criteria fulfilled:
yes
Conclusions:
Under the conditions of the present study, TH 1165 II did not induce acute immobilisation of Daphnia Magna at 2.2 mg/l after 48 hours of exposure (NOEC).
The 24h-EC50 was 6.1 mg/l with a 95% confidence interval between 5.2 and 7.5 mg/l.
The 48h-EC50 was 4.9 mg/l with a 95% confidence interval between 4.3 and 6.0 mg/l.
